Akordia accounts are for adults (18 and older). We don't currently offer a way for a child to create their own Akordia account. That said, since this is a family-history app, an adult account holder can add photos, stories, and family-tree entries about relatives of any age, including children — that's the whole point of the tree.
When you sign up, we collect your email address and, optionally, your name, through our authentication provider, Clerk. You can sign in with a one-time code sent to your email, or with Google, Apple, or Facebook. We also ask your date of birth once, only to confirm you're an adult — we don't use it for anything else.
Voice recordings, photos, written memories, and your family tree are stored in our database and in a private file storage bucket (Supabase). None of it is public. Only people you've invited into your specific family space can see it — access is checked on every request, and if someone leaves or is removed from your space, their access to your family's content ends too. You can also mark specific memories "adults only" to keep them out of view for the children represented in your tree.
Recording your voice is entirely optional — you can use Akordia with text alone. We also offer Sealed Capsules — memories you can lock until a future date or event. Sealed Capsules are end-to-end encrypted: nobody at Akordia, not even our own engineers, can read them before they unlock.
Ako can turn a spoken memory into text, chat with you about your family history, and animate old photos. To do this, the specific piece of content involved (the audio clip, the message, the photo) is sent to trusted third-party AI infrastructure providers — for example, speech-to-text and language-model providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and ElevenLabs — strictly to perform that one task. We do not use your memories, photos, or conversations to train third-party AI models, and this content is never sold or shared with advertisers, because we don't have any.
If a conversation with Ako contains signs of crisis, an automated safety check may flag it so we can show you local help resources. That check runs in real time; the text involved is never stored, logged, or reused afterward — it exists only long enough to make that one safety decision.
As of this beta, we have not turned on crash-reporting or product-analytics tools inside the app — no data currently leaves your device for those purposes. If we turn them on in the future, they will only ever receive anonymous technical identifiers, never memory content, names, or messages — that's a hard rule in how we build Akordia. Some testers may see an optional "report a problem" tool; it never includes a screenshot without your explicit, one-tap consent for that specific report.
If you purchase credits or a subscription, that transaction happens on our website through Stripe. Akordia never sees or stores your card number.
No ads. No selling your data. No sharing your family's memories with anyone outside your family space. Akordia's only customer is your family — there's no one else to show your data to.
You can close your account any time from Settings. When you do: your login, name, and email are permanently removed; any wallet credits are forfeited; and we hold the closure for 30 days in case you change your mind (signing back in cancels it). Memories you personally added stay in your family's shared book after your account closes, attributed to you, unless you remove them yourself first — this is how a shared family history survives any one member leaving. You can also download a copy of everything you've written, free, any time, from Settings.
Akordia is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone creating their own account who is under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us and we'll remove it.
This is a beta product, and this policy may change as Akordia does. We'll update the date above whenever it does, and material changes will be called out in the app.
